Is Meditation Really Necessary? Is It Worth The Time?

There are many opinions on whether meditation is necessary or not.

Some people believe that it is an important part of their daily routine, while others find it to be a waste of time.

There are many benefits to meditation, including reducing stress, improving focus and concentration, and promoting overall well-being.

However, whether or not meditation is necessary for you ultimately depends on your own goals in life.

Some people may find that other activities, such as exercise or journaling, provide similar benefits to achieving their goals.

Nevertheless, we will discuss the benefits, importance and overall necessity of meditation in this article!

Is meditation necessary?

As we discussed in the intro, whether meditation is necessary in your life will depend on what your top priorities are.

It is necessary if you wish to be able to communicate with your higher self on a road of spiritual development.

It is necessary if you want to be less anxious and stressed out in general, as well as more resilient to stress in your life.

Meditation has numerous health benefits, including improving your heart and brain health, reducing stress in your life, and enhancing your resilience.

It also increases life satisfaction because those who are relaxed tend to see the bright side of events more than those who are not.

In addition, meditation can aid in the prevention of many ailments, such as heart issues, strokes, illnesses associated with stress, and a variety of auto-immune conditions (more on the benefits of meditation in chapter 3).

But ultimately, happiness is what most people strive for. We assume that anything we do will lead to happiness for ourselves or others. But in reality, most of us rely on chance to achieve happiness.

The fact of the matter is that the fastest way to happiness (that doesn’t depend on outside goals) is through meditation.

In order to pause “thinking”, meditation practitioners must be attentive and passively aware.

In meditation, we become as objectively aware of the operations of our mind as we are able to be. We don’t, however, take part in it.

We calmly wait for all thoughts to go away on their own initiative; we neither promote nor repress them, and we don’t even consider trying to manage or get rid of them.

The subconscious mental chatter that develops in our thoughts as we get older can cause emotions of worry, melancholy, or worse. That all disappears during meditation.

So is meditation really necessary? Only if you want to grow spiritually, feel less stress and anxiety, and improve your health and overall level of happiness.

If you’ve never meditated, I’d advise giving it a try for a week or two and evaluating the effects on your own life.

is meditation necessary for enlightenment?

Awakening consciousness

According to enlightened masters, it is impossible to achieve enlightenment.

You can’t become that which you already are. There is nothing to seek or achieve.

Nobody can achieve enlightenment because the person seeking enlightenment is also the obstacle to enlightenment.

Prior to achieving Self-Realization, many enlightened people engaged in spiritual practices for many years. They almost universally deny any involvement of their spiritual practices (including meditation) being the cause of enlightenment.

However, we know that all great masters have spoken about meditation at some point in their lives.

The sole purpose of meditation is to eliminate “notions” that stand in the way of enlightenment.

The sole purpose of meditation is to purge the Supreme Self of all notions.

When these ideas are abandoned, the eternal Supreme Self becomes visible.

So in short, meditation is not necessary for enlightenment, it’s merely a tool that can set you on the right path.

You may improve both your physical and emotional health by practicing meditation, which can help you feel quiet, peaceful and in balance.

And once you stop practicing meditation, these advantages continue to exist. You can experience more peace throughout the day by practicing meditation. Additionally, meditation could be able to help you control the signs of a few medical disorders.

You might eliminate the information overload that accumulates throughout the day and adds to your tension by meditating.

The advantages of meditation for both physical and emotional well-being can be:

  • Understanding challenging circumstances from a different angle
  • Enhancing self-awareness while developing stress management techniques
  • Reducing unpleasant emotions through concentrating on the present
  • Developing imagination and creativity
  • Getting more tolerant and patient
  • Reduce the heart rate
  • Reduction in blood pressure
  • Enhancing the quality of your sleep

If you have a medical problem, particularly one that could be worse by stress, meditation may also be beneficial.

Despite the fact that there is rising scientific evidence that meditation has positive effects on one’s health, other academics feel that it is still too early to draw any firm conclusions about these effects.

In light of this, some study suggests that meditation may aid individuals in reducing the signs of disorders like:

  • Anxiety
  • Asthma
  • Cancer
  • Chronic pain
  • Depression
  • Chest pain
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Constipation syndrome
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Chronic headaches
